暑期的酷热渐渐褪去，秋天的风带来了阵阵凉意。结束了漫长的假期后，上海美达菲学校新学期如约而至。

The summer heat gradually faded, and the autumn wind brought coolness. After a long summer break, we started to embrace the new semester again.

天色渐晚，在学生会组织的热场游戏后，烛光迎新晚会伴随着篝火的冉冉升起拉开了序幕。

The night was approaching. After the warm-up activity organized by the Student Union, the welcome party started with the burning of the bonfire.

伴随着篝火的点燃，烛光晚会拉开了序幕

烛光迎新活动是美达菲学校传承百年的传统活动。每年新学期的伊始，大家都会环绕在篝火旁，传递烛光，也传递梦想和希望。在生活逐渐缺乏仪式感的当下，这一项具有仪式感的活动，象征着新旧交融，提高了学校的凝聚力，也体现着美达菲的校园文化。

The candlelight welcome event is a traditional event passed down by MacDuffie School for more than a century. At the beginning of each semester, all the teachers and students always gather around the bonfire, not only passing the candlelight but also passing dreams and hopes. Nowadays, people's life gradually lacks a sense of ritual. However, this ritualistic activity symbolizes the blending of the old and the new, improves the school's cohesion, and reflects the MacDuffie's school culture.

在主持人的引导下，所有新老师和新同学站在了内圈，老教职员工和老同学站在了外圈，手持蜡烛。

Under the host's guidance, all the new teachers and new students stood in the inner circle, while all the old teachers and old students were surrounded in the outer circle. Each of them was holding a candle in hand.

回顾过去，展望未来

Review the past & look forward to the future

美达菲(中国)教育集团学监高彩霞从篝火中点亮手中的蜡烛，并由学生代表和教职工代表将手中的盈盈烛光传递给全体教职工和同学们。

Gao Caixia, the proctor of MacDuffie (China) Education Group, lighted the candle in her hand from the bonfire and passed the candlelight to student representatives and faculty representatives. Then, these representatives lighted all the students and teachers' candles.

全部蜡烛被点燃之后，学监手捧蜡烛站在圆圈的中央，围绕着美达菲 "怀中国心，做世界人"的宗旨，对烛光晚会这一传统仪式进行了回顾，也对未来进行了新的展望。

After all the candles were lit, the proctor stood in the center of the circle with candles in her hand, and gave a speech around Macduffie's philosophy: With Chinese Heart, Be a World Person. She also reviewed the traditional ceremony of the candlelight event and looked forward to the future.

随着篝火的持续燃烧，全体师生的热情也已被这火焰所点燃。大家齐声喊出美达菲的价值观：集体、正直、尊重、创造力、领导力、卓越，声浪一次比一次高，将活动气氛推向了高潮。

With the bonfire's burning, all the teachers and students' passion was also ignited by the fire. All the people shouted out Macduffie's circle values aloud three times: Community, Integrity, Respect, Creativity, Leadership, Excellence. The atmosphere reached a climax at this time.

探究自我：静默30秒活动

Self-Reflection: 30-Second Silence

热烈后的沉默总能够带给人更多的思考。此时此刻，全体师生手捧烛光，静默30秒，思考circle value对自己的意义。虽然学校的价值观看似是六个简简单单的汉语词汇，但对于每个不同的个体而言，却有着特殊的意义。

The silence after passion can always bring people more space to de deep thinking. At this moment, all the teachers and students held candles in their hands and kept a 30-second silence to do self-reflections according to the circle values. Although the circle values seem like six simple Chinese words, they have a unique meaning for each individual.

融合：新的家庭

Cohesion: A New Family

在这短暂的静默之后，两个圈融合为了一个大圈。此时此刻，没有新老教师的区别，没有新老生的区别。大家通过这个仪式，已经完全成为了一个集体，新的大家庭。

After the short silence, two circles had already become one big circle. At this moment, there was no difference between new teachers and old teachers, or new students and old students. All the people had become a big community. Everyone became family members.

最后，各位师生依次将手中的蜡烛吹灭，也宣告着此项活动已临近尾声。虽然烛光总有熄灭的时候，但烛光象征着光明，象征着希望，象征着温暖，象征着友爱，也象征着力量。这一切都已经根植于在场的每一位老师和同学的心中。

Finally, teachers and students gradually blew out their candles, which symbolized that this event was approaching the end. Although the candle might be blown out, the candlelight still represents brightness, hope, warmth, friendship, and power. All of these circle values had already been deeply rooted in each teacher and students' heart.

烛光点燃在低处， 立足大地;灵魂栖息在高处，辉映星光。即使生活遇到黑暗，也能够靠心中的烛光将黑暗点亮!

The candlelight was lighted in the lower area, standing upon the earth; while the soul would perch on high, shining with starlight. Even if we encounter darkness in the future, we should firmly believe that the darkness can be lighted by the candlelight in our hearts!
