On the first day the faculty and staff return to school, the school conducts "future-oriented" training. Mrs.Gao, Supervisor of Macduffie (China) Education Group, commented on the school-running philosophy, values, missions, school development goals, teacher development goals, and student development goals in the newly formulated "Three-year Development Plan for Shanghai Macduffie School" . At The MacDuffie School Shanghai, teachers have been on campus all week to take part in the first week of The MacDuffie School Teacher Training and Development Program. Teachers have participated in a wide variety of training, led by experts, and have then put those skills into practice as they prepare for the incoming classes of students at the school.
培训内容*括比较不错课堂教学实践、将学校价值观融入日常教学、IB课程开发,*括CAS的演示和扩展论文、现代教学系统的最新信息技术技能,利用导师制计划对所有新教师进行学校和可能更多领域的发展和学习。
Sessions have included work on best practice for teachers in the classroom, embedding the school CIRCLE values into everyday practice, IB course development, including presentations on CAS and the Extended Essay, the latest in Information Technology skills for the modern teaching system, use of the mentoring program for all new teachers to the school and may more areas of development and learning.

As part of our dedication to providing professional development and support for all staff Shanghai MacDuffie has introduced a new mentoring system for the 2020-2021 academic year. The four teachers selected as mentors for new staff were chosen for their outstanding character, skills and experience which they will use to guide and support new teaching staff through their first semester as a MacDuffie teacher. The training gave guidelines and aims for mentors to follow to ensure not only new staff are given the support they need, but mentors develop their own leadership and time management skills.

Introduction to the IB Diploma (DP)

The Shanghai MacDuffie campus is privileged to be able to offer three programs to our students: The American Curriculum, the IB Diploma Program and the Canadian Program, OSSD.
本次课程由IB协调员David Scoggins为新加入IB项目的教师讲解了国际文凭项目的宗旨,并概述了文凭项目的课程设置。老师们了解了IB DP和我们学校其他项目的异同,对如何准备他们的课程有了清晰的认识。此外,由于我们经验丰富的IB DP的两个老师,李老师和CAS协调员黄老师,各位老师了解了CAS,拓展论文(EE)和TOK如何融入六个学科的教学中。
For teachers new to the IB DP this session delivered by the IB Coordinator David Scoggins, explained the International Baccalaureate’s mission statement and gave an overview of the Diploma Program’s curriculum. Teachers learned the similarities and differences between IB DP and the other programs on our campus and came away with a clear understanding of how to prepare for teaching their subject. Furthermore, thanks to the contributions of two of our experienced IB DP teachers, Heidi Li and CAS Coordinator Yasmine Huang, teachers gained a valuable insight into how the core of creativity, activity and service (CAS), the extended essay (EE) and Theory of Knowledge (TOK) are integrated with the six subject groups.

Activities & Clubs
本周的最后一节培训由David完成,重点是介绍和解释上海美达菲校园里的社团和活动的作用。美达菲的学生以其优异的学术成绩而闻名,但同样重要的是,他们要成为全面发展的人,而社团和活动在其中发挥了重要作用。通过参加学校社团,学生能够发展他们的人际交往能力、运动能力、创造力和认知能力。学生们积极参与课外活动,也极大地提高了大学申请的质量,因为西方知名大学越来越注重未来学生除了成绩优异之外的特质。老师们以小组形式讨论各种社团的想法,如:校报、电影赏析社团、篮球队、象棋社团、心理学社团、摄影与戏剧社团等。我们期待着一个激动人心的新学期,希望能在传统的课堂之外培养学生的兴趣和技能。
Our final training session delivered by David this week focused on introducing and explaining the role of Clubs & Activities in the Shanghai MacDuffie campus. MacDuffie students are well known for their academic excellence but it is just as important that they develop as well-rounded people and the Clubs & Activities play a significant part in this. By joining clubs at school students are able to develop their interpersonal skills, physical capabilities, creativity and cognitive functions. In playing an active role in extra curricula activities students also greatly boost the quality of the university applications as top western universities increasingly look to what else their prospective students can offer beyond outstanding grades. In small groups teachers discussed ideas for clubs such as: a school newspaper, movie discussion & appreciation club, a basketball team, chess club, psychology group and photography and drama clubs. We look forward to an exciting new semester and being able to foster fresh interests in and develop the skills of our students outside the traditional classroom environment.
